CATARACT SURGERY
Mr Benson has performed thousands of cataract operations and has a much lower than average complication rate (<1%). He is also capable of dealing with any potential complication that may arise and specialises in fixing cataracts that have gone wrong in the hands of other surgeons.
RETINAL DETACHMENT SURGERY
Mr Benson specialises in retinal detachment surgery, primarily using 25G and 27G vitrectomy approaches, or scleral buckle procedures. Pneumatic retinopexy may also be suitable for some patients.
VITRECTOMY SURGERY FOR FLOATERS
Mr Benson specialises in vitrectomy surgery which treats troublesome floaters. This is normally done in conjunction with a cataract operation and is performed with state of the art 27G kit (one of the only units in Yorkshire to offer this). While we can never guarantee that you will be 100% without floaters afterwards, we can guarantee that you will get safe, and effective surgery.
EPIRETINAL MEMBRANES
Mr Benson can treat distortion due to scarring / membrane formation at the back of your eye. This is normally done in conjunction with a cataract operation and this operation also removes the majority of vitreous floaters. Mr Benson will discuss the risks of progression with you prior to surgery. It is important to point out that if you have no symptoms with one or the other eye closed you do not need this surgery.
DIABETIC EYE DISEASE
Mr Benson is experienced in managing early, moderate and late stage diabetic retinopathy. This is primarily treated with appropriately targeted laser therapy, but may also benefit from injections or in some cases vitreoretinal surgery.
VITREOUS HAEMORRHAGE
Vitreous haemorrhage can be treated in many ways either with observation, injections, laser or surgery to physically remove the blood. Mr Benson will advise about the possible and preferable treatments depending on the individual patient's situation.
SCLERAL-FIXATED IOLs
MACULAR HOLES
Mr Benson specialises in treatment of macular holes using non-posturing techniques. This is normally performed in conjunction with a cataract operation and requires a gas bubble or oil to be placed in the eye. His outcomes are better than the national average and he is willing to take on complex cases who may have been declined surgery elsewhere.
RETINAL LASER
Mr Benson specialises in retinal laser for the treatment of retinal tears, holes and diabetes among others. He will discuss the options with you and always ensure that your concerns are taken into account when planning a course of treatment.
Mr Benson has performed many scleral fixated intraocular lenses for patients who have had either previous trauma, congenital cataract surgery or complicated cataract surgery. He will discuss options with you including Yamane, Carlevale as well as sutured options and utilises the most up to date techniques.
GENERAL EYE COMPLAINTS
Mr Benson trained in the UK and is capable of managing a range of general eye complaints in a caring and thorough manner. There is no question too simple or too complex!
